Racism is a structural and institutional problem with many different and subtle facets.
Through the current demonstrations of Black Lives Matter, the topic is once again in the media focus and thus once again at a high point in the social discussion. Games, like other media, are often also a mirror of society, a society in which they are created and whose patterns they reflect in the media. For quite some time now, many computer games have been taking up the topic of racism and the developers are facing up to the discussion. Or they transport, often unconsciously, discriminatory and racist clichés, which are controversially discussed within the gamer scene. Games for teaching practice in the classroom open up new and varied opportunities to discuss topics. We would like to make use of these and use examples to stimulate a discussion about how computer games can be used to stand up against discrimination and racism.

Educators have the opportunity to have their participation in a gamescom congress workshop credited as a further education measure by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. To receive a certificate of participation, please send a screenshot of the online seminar, which you will take towards the end of the workshop, to the following e-mail address: h.wallbott@koelnmesse.de
